1. Resembling a very slender bore as a capillary tube. In soil associated with the phenomenon of surface tension. Capillary water in soil is that which is held by surface tension on or between the soil particles.

Image shows capillary tubes with different diameters, as the diameter decreases the water level rises. Water in soil is held in similar way due to surface tension.
